so i awoke at 7:30 this morning and couldn't figure out why. eventually, it dawned on me that my stomach was unhappy with me and would not allow me to resume sleep. it is now 9 am, and i feel miraculously better. as least this wasn't nearly as bad as the Krispy Kreme incident. but it means that i will have to go be social all weekend as planned. i'm not sure this is necessarily a good thing. i *hope* it's a good thing. it's just, i've been sort of torn. on one hand, i've been feeling grumpy and anti-social. on the other hand, doing things with people keeps seeming like a good idea. i can't figure it out.

well, perhaps it's all for the best that i failed to acquire any traditional Chinese New Year foods, as it would be wise to not eat exciting things today. and yet, it *is* Chinese New Year today, going from the year of the Black Horse to the year of the Goat/Sheep/Ram (in fact, according to this page, it is the year of the "ram in a flock of ewes"). hmm. according to this other page it is the Year of the Black Sheep as well, because it is the year of the Female Water Sheep and Water corresponds to black. huh. if i'm reading this right, the Horse (my sign) is an almost purely fire sign. which juxtaposes strangely with my Western horoscope sign of Cancer, which is a water sign. okay, now i'm confused. apparently Wood is my lucky element, but as far as i can tell it's my lucky element because i don't have any of it and therefore it would bring the 5 elements into better balance if i did. and i'm born in the hour (kids) of Female Metal and White Snake, the day (me) of Male Metal and White Monkey, and the month (parents) and year (ancestor) of Male Soil and Brown Horse. And my element distribution is Metal (me) 45, Water (kids) 5, Wood (money) 0, Fire (job) 204, and Soil (mom) 151. which makes me White Monkey, born in the year of the Brown Horse, and my lucky element is Wood. it seems like Water is a secondary lucky element for me, too, given the distribution. i wonder what this all is supposed to mean.

i love this quote! "MONEY is made by something coming out from your brain or body. That's why MONEY hurts your body. MONEY is our enemy."

ah ha! there are many lucky element theories. by smallest score, Wood is my lucky element. by cold and hot, my lucky element is by far (almost disturbingly so) Water. and by for and friend... wow, i'm actually pretty balanced. by bottleneck, my lucky element is Soil, and Water might be a lucky element, if a difference of 40 is considered "much greater." wacky.

huh. apparently, i should wear tiger, hare, dragon (for wood), rat, pig, ox (for water), or dog, ox, goat, dragon (for soil). it would seem that the worst thing to wear would be horse, as it is fire (and job, which is enemy), and the one thing i really don't need more of. and yet, the thing i'm most inclined to wear, as it's my basic zodiac sign. okay, getting a little too caught up here.

hmm, i wonder if there's a Western horoscope website that will do something similar (without charging me money or wanting information from me, of course). i attempted to draw up a chart from a book a few years ago, but got stuck.

maybe i'll stop by the Asian market at the bottom of the hill and see if they have anything yummy and easily portable that i could bring to the two gatherings i'm going to today.

oh damn. i bet i'm feeling well enough to clean the upstairs bathroom. bleh.
