oops. so, it's been a long time. there's been alot going on, what with rehearsals and the subscription concert season starting [Symphony, Ballet, and Opera] and the modern dance class and filking and gaming and mulling over and discussing and deciding to become poly again... really just everything.
argh. now i realize there's so much to say that i'm paralyzed trying to decide what i feel like talking about at the moment. tonight and tomorrow i'll be at the Zamir Chorale retreat. i'll be going to Jewish services and having Shabbas [or however you feel like spelling it] dinner and getting to know people and such, it'll be way cool. as Chad puts it, soon i will be a better Jew than Yoav is, because tho' Yoav [a friend of ours] is ethnically Jewish he know truly almost nothing about the religion. Chad [who is not Jewish, by ethnicity or inclination] knows scads more than Yoav does because he has seriously dated two Jewish women, one of whom was Orthodox [or at least trying to be] and the other of whom was trying to become more active in Judaism at the time. anyway, it'll be interesting and fun, i hope.
ah, my ears aren't ringing anymore. good. they were still ringing when i went to sleep, you see. well, ringing may be the wrong word. they were having white noise. i guess the combination of going to Manray for Halloween and then going to the Paradise to see three loud alternative-rock type bands the next day wasn't too good for the ears. actually the alternative-rock type bands were surprisingly good -- and they were even in the right order. the first opening band was a local band called Division St. they were listenable but would get annoying in larger doses, i think. the second was another local band called Dragstrip Courage, and they were both better and less annoying, so i bought an EP. the headlining band was Jump, Little Children, the band that my friend AM came up from NY to see and dragged me along. they were very very good. fun to watch, talented musicians, really quite good. i especially liked the cellist, but i suppose that's typical for me. AM's favorite is the singer, who was certainly good but didn't seem particularly unique, given the type of band. but maybe i'm just hard on singers. alt-rock singers often have very similar sounds, too, so perhaps that's part of it. well, and they all tend to have the same sort of look, too... i mean, how many skinny dark-haired cool-laid-back-intense men are there really room for in the world, and how the hell do you differentiate them all if you only get to see them from afar, on the stage? okay, for some people, probably an infinite number. but while i don't dislike the type it's also not my favorite type. it's often too conventially handsome for me to garner up any actual connection to it. which is not to say that there aren't exceptions... and this would completely not hold up if i were to actually get to know these people as people rather than figures on a stage, but still. anyway, i bought 2 cd's by them. yay.
it was really good to see AM; i hope she figures out what she needs to figure out and that it's okay in the end. the friend of hers she brought with her was also pretty cool. nice, laid-back.
Chad and i have officially commenced polyamory again. we used to be poly back when we first started going out, then we became mostly monogamous and were for a couple years, but we've decided to try polyamory again. should be fun, i think. it has its challenges, but seems to have great potential in both the long and short run, in different ways. as long as we both have good taste, this should be no problem. of course, i've officially worried about how he hadn't shown good taste in some of his past girlfriend choices, but his taste does seem to have improved, so perhaps it's okay. we'll see. ^_^
so, Boiled in Lead was always one of those bands that i always thought i should really like but never got around to actually listening to enough to become a fan. after finally listening to the Gypsy cd, that has changed. absolutely kickass. and it seems to have the entire book on the cd as well, which is just cool. it's one of my favorite Steven Brust books, which is saying alot 'cause i like most of Brust's stuff and adore a good chunk of it. it may have some other stuff on it too, but i couldn't look too closely because i shouldn't really be futzing around with it at work. it causes me sadness that they're not together anymore. but at least it's possible to hear the members separately. tho' it still makes me grumbly that Emma Bull is out on California, and that Brust moved to Las Vegas. i hope he's having fun there, at least. and i hope he comes to Minicon. whee.
i wonder if i have booked myself to see too much culture this coming year. so far in a little under two months i've been to 2 ballets, 1 symphony concert, 1 opera, 1 MTG musical, a community sing, a filk sing, and two rock/folk concerts. before the end of 2001 i'll be performing three times with Zamir, want to see 4-5 other MIT theatre and music productions/concerts, go to 2 filksings, go to two folk concerts, go to one or two Chorus Pro Musica concerts, go to another opera and at least one BSO concert... it's totally nuts. nuts, i say! but certainly lovely...
okay, i have rambled enough for today, i think. whee.
